Treasures along Road 66 # 6

After visiting the Chinese lion we continued our yourney to Chambless, where the abandoned Roadrunners Retreat Restaurant is located.

Three miles east of Chambless you pass the old ruins from Cadiz Summit Service, in earlier times a garage, gas station and restaurant.

But the greatest treasure is the beautiful scenery and vegetation ... even at 109°F it is a must to leave the air-conditioned car to take some photos.

  1. Wonderful photos! Was the large green bush actually growing on the side of the road like that, or was it a tumble weed? It looks sort of like the smaller bushes growing in the Ocotillo photo.

  2. Those are very nice treasures indeed. I am glad you had a great trip in Arizona. My daughter lives there and I have been but not for a long while now.

  3. Wow what a collection of desert treasures. A trip on Route 66 is on my bucket list, but until then I will enjoy the sights that you are sharing, thanks Arti. I can't wait to see what comes next.

  5. I agree with you that the greatest treasure is the scenery. The other things like what is left of the filling station with the graffiti is just a little colorful icing on the cake. What a thrill to travel Route 66.

  6. I have family in Arizona so travel there often. Once in a while I take Route 66 most of the time I take I-10 just because it is faster. The days I travel 66 are the ones I remember most though. Great photos, thanks for sharing!

  12. i've been on parts of 66...a lot of it when i was a kid so i took it for granted...not usually a fan of graffiti but i do like how colorful it makes the barren desert look!
